New Kenya rugby sevens coach Paul Treu started his reign on a winning note in the Dubai Sevens, guiding the team to a 10-7 win over Portugal in their first of three pool games.

Oscar Ayodi crossed the line for Kenya early in the first half, but Biko Adema was unable to convert for the extra two points, leaving the score at 5-0.

Pedro Leal replied with a converted try for Portugal to take a 7-5 lead.

Kenya’s all time top try scorer Collins Injera landed his 163rd IRB Sevens World Series try to give Kenya a 10-7 scoreline, which they held to the final whistle.

They now face France at 1:15pm local time.

Meanwhile the women’s team hammered United Arab Emirates 31-5 in their opening pool game of the women’s invitational tournament.

The Lionesses now face the Swiss Barbarians at midday, local time.
