Tribunal clears Wavinya Ndeti to contest Machakos gubernatorial seat

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) has cleared Wavinya Ndeti to contest for the Machakos gubernatorial seat.

Ndeti, a seasoned politician, is contesting for the seat on a Wiper Party ticket but had been accused of having questionable academic documents.

Specifically, her university degree was questioned.

But the DRC says it lacks jurisdiction to hear the qualification against the politician.

“This committee lacks jurisdiction to determine the qualification complaint against Wavinya. We uphold the decision of the Machakos County Returning officer to clear Wavinya for governorship,” said the DRC.

Ndeti is among candidates seeking to replace Alfred Mutua whose term of office is coming to an end.

“All these allegations were made to slow down the pace at which I would campaign. I’m excited the truth has been seen and now looking forward to selling the agenda,” said Ndeti.

Other candidates are Johnstone Muthama who is contesting on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita (Chama Cha Uzalendo), and Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Maliti (Maendeleo Chap Chap Party).
