Trouble at Ingwe’s den over delayed GOtv Shield prize money

Two weeks after being crowned the 2017 GOtv Shield champions, AFC Leopards players are still waiting to receive the prize money from the club management.

Leopards defeated Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 on October 20 in Kasarani to win the domestic cup.

This feat ensured the club bags Sh2 million in prize money and a chance to represent the country in the Caf Confederation Cup next year.

However, Nairobi News understands the cash is yet to be dispensed to the players who are now seeking an audience with the management for an explanation before Sunday’s SportPesa Premier League match against Nakumatt.

PLAYERS’ DEMANDS

“The players have been demanding for the money all week, but we have yet to receive that amount from the sponsors. This is the message the players should understand,” a club official who spoke off the record, explained.

“The sponsor told us to wait for the money after the (repeat presidential) elections, so we are patient and have no reason to doubt them because they have been delivering,” the official added.

Despite the impressive run in the domestic cup, Leopards, initially under the tutelage of Stewart Hall and now Robert Matano, have struggled in the league this season.

The team is placed 13th in the 18-team table on 36 points from 31 outings as the 2017 season draws close to its conclusion.
