Tusker out to puncture Gor Mahia’s big ego

A potentially explosive match pitting Tusker against Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia will go down on Saturday afternoon at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Gor Mahia will be looking to extend their season’s unbeaten run and also appease their partisan travelling fans, while the brewers will be keen to wrap the first leg on the season among the top five teams.

K’Ogalo have an embarrassment of talent and hold a commanding 9 point lead on top of the table.

But at sixth position the brewers are keen to claim victory but only to end K’Ogalo’s unbeaten run this season.

Tusker, who boast a squad with great depth, convincingly beat Sony Sugar 2-0 in their last match.

Tusker defender Donald Mosoti and striker Patrick Oboya will be coming up against their former employers, while K’Ogalo will have stars Michael Olunga, Khalid Aucho, Boniface Oluoch, Victor Abondo and Collins Okoth facing their former club.

Abondo, who is currently the league top score with eight goals, says that the team is well prepared for the match, and that he will celebrate if he scores against Tusker.

ABOUT WINNING

“We have come here (Kisumu) to get all the three points. If I score I will definitely celebrate because that is my job,” he told Saturday Nation Sport.

“I have many friends at Tusker but even they know that this is about winning. We are all aware of the magnitude of the challenge and we will be working towards success,” he added.

In the weekend’s other big match, AFC Leopards will clash with GOtv Shield holders Sofapaka at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Deputy President William Ruto on Friday donated Sh 500,000 to Gor Mahia in response to a request by the club’s Chairman Ambrose Rachier.

“We will do our bit to ensure our sporting talents are groomed and nurtured. The Government and private sector will, as has always been the case, continue funding sports in the country,” Ruto said.

Team captain Jerim Onyango thanked the DP for his generous gesture.

“This is a welcome boost to the club. We are determined to win our match against Tusker,” Onyango said.
