Twitter asks all employees to work from home due to Coronavirus

Twitter on Monday asked its almost 5,000 global employees to work from home due to concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus.

The social media company made the suggestion as part of a blog update one day after it suspended all non-critical travel for workers.

“Our goal is to lower the probability of the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus for us – and the world around us. We are operating out of an abundance of caution and the utmost dedication to keeping our Tweeps healthy,” Jennifer Christie, head of Twitter’s human resources, said in a blog post.

Twitter’s work-from-home policy is mandatory for employees in Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea, due to government restrictions.

The company said it will work to make its meetings and internal tasks doable remotely.

Outside of the mandatory restrictions, offices will remain open for those who need to come in or prefer to work there.

Twitter said that its criteria for the new policy will “evolve over time” as it gets more information.

The news comes as more deaths from the Coronavirus were announced worldwide with the epidemic already exceeding 90,000 cases and resulting in more than 3,000 deaths worldwide.
