Twitter reacts to Nigerian ‘rape’ incident in Zanzibar
The experience of a Nigerian female who traveled to Zanzibar for a holiday treat has stirred up reactions on Twitter.
The lady, namely Zainab Oladehinde, says she was sexually assaulted and robbed during his stay at the East Africa.
Her experience, which includes claims the authorities failed to deliver justice, has elicited debate.
“OMG !! I was super livid at this point. Not only did these people try to rape and kill me, they also stole my $1,100 (Sh126,400). I had one thousand, one hundred dollars in my bag and it was gone also,” she says in her narration.
In a statement published by Warere hotel management, Zainab incidence was a personal one and the hotel would only reward her the damages as issued by the court in Zanzibar.
“The case was brought before Government authorities in April 2021 when it occurred. The police report indicated that this was a personal case, and not negligence on the part of the Warere,” the statement read.
With this in mind, this is what social media users had to say.
Warere Beach Hotel in Zanzibar has released this statement following rape and theft accusations by one of its guests, Zainab.

Warere Beach Hotel did everything but take responsibility for what happened to Zainab at their property. They blamed her, offered the other ridiculous side of the story, accused her of demanding money and claimed "woman-owned and operated". Avoid their property like a plague.

Just read about Zainab’s horrible experience in Zanzibar and i’m so mad. My stomach is churning
what a woman Zainab is. That sort of evidence collection under such traumatic circumstances. Damn.

This Zainab Oladehinde/warere hotel story is highly one sided with many gaps. It's agreeable women are victims of many things, but I find however familiar with circumstances they be….there is tendency of mob attack without scrutiny on matters gender. pic.twitter.com/m4JMoVYOzq

Why did you decline to go on with the case and sue the security guy his company and the hotel. But instead you demanded $10k upfront from the hotel (personal) this is a red flag . Zanzibar is the safest tourist destination in Tanzania. It’s a been a year though.

All I can say in this matter is that social media can't be the judge in this matter. A court case was better so that all these facts would be proven. Despite the unfortunate situation, a hearing of the other side is key in solving this.

Living in a female body remains the most dangerous endeavour that women have to endure. Policing systems fail and harras you, security systems neglect and carelessly dismiss you while institutional systems are never available when you need them.
I am so sorry Zainab.
