Two-month-old baby found abandoned outside homestead
Police in Mukurweini, Nyeri County are looking for the mother of a two-month-old baby who is suspected to have dumped the infant outside a homestead on Thursday.
The infant was discovered by Ms Ann Wanjiku Njuki, 34, who lives in Kiahungu area, within Muhito location, after she heard the baby.
“She went outside and found an infant baby boy of about two months old, having been abandoned at a banana plantation next to her house,” a report filed at Mukureini Police Station reads in part.
It is then that the woman made a decision to take the infant to the police station. At the station, police officers recommended that the baby be taken to Mukurweini Sub-County Hospital for medical check-up.
Doctors at the facility told the police and Ms Wanjiku that the baby were both in very good health.
“Necessary action was taken and the infant is awaiting to be handed over to a rescue center with the help of Mukureini Sub-County children’s officer,” the police said.
The matter is being investigated by detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the sub-county with the aim of arresting the woman who dumped the baby.
The police have also asked members of the public who might have information that will assist in identifying the baby’s mother to assist them in the investigations.
The incident happened on the same day a three-year-old child was burnt to death in a night fire in Kibera slums, Nairobi County.

By the time police officers arrived at the scene, members of the public had already contained the fire but had found the lifeless body of Favour Rioba in what used to be their house.
