UDA Nairobi MCAs fight for Minority Leader’s office
A section of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Members of County Assembly in Nairobi County are calling for action against the Minority Leader Anthony Kiragu.
In a letter addressed the office of the party secretary general, the MCAs, who are allied to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, claim that Mr Kiragu and the Minority Whip Mark Mugambi have been peddling lies to the effect that the governor recently funded Azimio la Umoja’s political rally at Kamukunji grounds.
Speaking on Wednesday at City Hall, the MCAs said Mr Kiragu failed to furnish them with evidence that the governor indeed funded and organized the said rally.
While defending the governor, Ward Reps, led by Kahawa West MCA Dr Clement Kamaru, demanded disciplinary action against Mr Kiragu and Mr Mugambi, who is the MCA for Umoja One.

“We are calling upon the UDA disciplinary committee to take action against the two Hon members to mitigate the future occurrence of such grave and false allegations towards his Excellency the Governor of Nairobi, hounourable Johnson Sakaja which in our view relate to witch-hunt and character assassination,” the MCAs’ letter reads in part.
“All said and done, resignation is the only option because we can’t be led by two people who have different agendas from what the County Assembly has,” Ruai ward MCA Karis James Kariuki said.
Other MCAs who attended the press address include Kayole Central MCA Jeremiah Themendu, Chris Mtumishi (Komarcok ward), James Koria (Matopeni), Kimani Mugo (Zimmerman) and Pangani Ward MCA Peter Wahinya.

Last month, the Minority Leader and his Minority Whip accused the governor of sponsoring the Azimio rally, asking him to decide whether he is in UDA or Azimio.
On the other hand, the pro-Sakaja MCAs have asked their colleagues to allow the governor to deliver his promises to the people of Nairobi without undue interference.
Differences between the two factions of UDA MCAs deepened further last week when the Minority Whip claimed to have been attacked by the goons whom he alleged to have been sent by the governor.
However, Sakaja’s office dismissed the allegations, saying the governor has is firm advocate of politics of tolerance.
