Police have launched investigations after a Ugandan national was found dead at Shauri Moyo Shopping Centre over the weekend.

In the Mathare slums, Nairobi police shot dead a suspect moments after he stabbed a man.

Police said the victim was bleeding to death. Witnesses said the suspect had chased the man into a bar and started stabbing him as a mob rushed to his aid.

The attacker, who police said was a notorious robber, tried to escape while still armed with a knife. He was chased by a mob and police joined the chase before shooting him dead a few metres away.

Police said he refused to surrender. The earlier stabbed victim, identified as Nicodemus Odinga, died at the scene. Both bodies were taken to the city morgue for autopsy.

Elsewhere in Nairobi’s Kabete area, a woman was stabbed to death during a fight. The body of Mildred Muchela, 33, was found with two deep cuts on her stomach.

The motive for the attack is not yet known, police said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the murder. The body has been taken to the morgue as the hunt for the attacker continues. The incident took place on Saturday, May 18.

Meanwhile, in Pangani, Nairobi County, a man died early Monday morning while trying to escape a fire in his apartment.

The fire broke out at around 3am on the first floor of his apartment building on North View Road, trapping residents on the upper floors.

Police said residents were panicking after smoke filled the entire building.

The victim, who lived on the fourth floor, tried to jump to the next building, which was about 10 feet away from his flat.

He reportedly jumped from his balcony, but missed the target, hitting the wall unsupported and falling to the ground floor, landing head first and dying instantly.

Property of unknown value was destroyed before a fire engine joined the efforts to contain the fire.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
