Uhuru congratulates Donald Trump for his win


President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni have congratulated America’s president – elect Donald John Trump.

Mr Trump beat Hillary Clinton in a closely contested prsidential election to be become the 45th President of United States.

Presidents Kenyatta and Museveni shared their congratulatory messages to their newly elected colleague on their social media pages.

President Kenyatta wrote; “Kenya congratulates Mr Trump for his victorious campaign, and his main opponent, Mrs Hillary Clinton, for her valiant effort.

“The ties that bind Kenya and the United States of America are close and strong. They are old, and based in the values that we hold dear: in democracy, in the rule of law, and in the equality of peoples. These values remain dear to the peoples of both nations, and so our friendship will endure.”

President Museveni, who has worked with four American Presidents during his 30 year tenure, said: “Elections in the US or any country are a matter for the people of that country. Our relationship with the United States will continue regardless of which leader or party is leading. I congratulate Mr Trump once again and look forward to working with him as we have been working with the other leaders before him.”

Mr Trump, a 70 year old American businessman, is scheduled to take office on January 20, 2017.
