Uhuru: I’m ready to be sworn in if Raila boycotts election

President Uhuru Kenyatta says he is ready to be sworn into office in the event Nasa presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, makes good his threat to boycott the October 17 election.

The Head of State made the remarks while addressing a campaign rally at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on Saturday.

“If he (Odinga) is not ready or doesn’t want to compete in the elections there is no problem. We will head to Kasarani and take oath of office,” President Kenyatta said.

The President also expressed his frustration by the Supreme Court ruling that nullified his election victory during the August 8 elections.

“I felt so much pain when my victory was taken away. It is like passing an exam and someone says you did not pass. I’m ready to sit the exam again,” he said.

DECLARED WINNER

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Mr Kenyatta the winner of the election with 54 percent of the votes cast.

But the Supreme Court overturned the verdict three weeks later, on grounds that the exercise was marred by massive irregularities.

President Kenyatta also suggested that former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero was diverting resources from the county government towards funding Nasa, stating this could be the only reason as to why the opposition coalition was now begging for money from the public.

At the same rally, Deputy President William Ruto questioned Mr Odinga’s academic credentials, claiming this could be the reason he has asked for the national exams to be referred.
