Uhuru: No govt official to travel abroad without my permission
President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a directive banning government officials from travelling abroad without his permission.
The directive was announced on Wednesday in a circular released by the head of public service Joseph Kinyua.
“This is to notify you that it has been decided that until further advised otherwise, no government official will travel outside the country without clearance by the President,” it stated.
According to the directive, principal secretaries, chief executives and board members of state corporations, who are ordinarily cleared to travel abroad by Mr Kinyua, will now have to seek approval from President Kenyatta.
“For avoidance of doubt, the officials in reference include Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and officer in Ministries, Chief Executive Officers of Parastatals and their officers, and Board of Directors of Parastatals,” the directive stated.
