Why Uhuru is not amused by his speech writers

State House speech writers better watch out. President Uhuru Kenyatta was clearly unimpressed by his speech writers on Monday, lamenting how long his speech was: “hii kitu ni mrefu”.

The comment was made as the President was delivering his speech to various workers who had gathered at Uhuru Park to celebrate the day.

President Kenyatta is known for going off-the-cuff in his comments and the reality of a 20-minute speech during lunch-hour hit him.

The President exclaimed shortly before staring another of his usually phrased “Fellow Kenyans” paragraph.

President Kenyatta announced that he had directed that the minimum wage be increased by 18 per cent.

He urged Kenyans to stop buying second hand clothes and instead purchase locally made garments to support Kenya’s textile industry adding that the same will soon be done for motor vehicles.

President Kenyatta urged Kenyans working abroad to utilize registered foreign employment agencies.

“We are well aware that workers rights are abused when working abroad, please register at Kenyan embassies in those countries,” said the President.

Kenyans on Twitter had their take on the president’s lamentation:
