Uhuru’s eye for detail in Juba

By MERCY NJOKI August 27th, 2015 2 min read

Kenyans on social media were ungovernable on Thursday after President Uhuru Kenyatta uploaded on Facebook a curious photo of himself, Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni and Ethiopian PM Hailemariam Desalegn standing behind South Sudan president Salva Kiir.

In the photo, the three heads of state seem to be staring at an unidentified woman who is assisting President Kirri during the signing of the South Sudan peace agreement in Juba on Wednesday.

The scene echoes similar pictures of world leaders caught in poses that were open to cheeky interpretations.

In 2009, White House was forced to release a video to defend US President Barack Obama and his then French counterpart Nicholas Sarkozy who were caught in a perspective of a picture as if he was checking out a teenager.

The woman, 17-year-old Brazilian named Mayara Rodrigues Tavare, become an overnight celebrity as a result of apparently catching Obama’s eye.

However, a video released immediately by the White House shows that Obama was just about to help the girl in the floral skirt and black top behind him down the stairs and did not seem to be staring at the woman at all.

Later, President Obama is seen looking away as he waits, alongside Taro Aso (then Japan’s Prime Minister), Stephen Harper (Canada’s PM), Sarkozy, Silvio Berlusconi (then Italian PM) and Dmitry Medvedev (then Russian President), for a female aide to remove toe markers as they pose for a family photo at the G8 summit in L’Aquila, Italy.

Both Sarkozy and Berlusconi appeared to be ogling at the woman’s behind.

In a separate incident, President Obama and Sarkozy were once again caught in a pose that appeared to suggest they were staring at a woman’s behind.

The Uhuru photo has widely shared on Facebook and is doing rounds of WhatsApp group attracting hilarious comments from Kenyans.

David Omollo posted, “All eyes on that lady..eeish angalieni signature ya kiir kama ni fake!”

“Your eyes and those of the prime minister don’t seem to be on the treaty Mr president!” Fred Maren Torome went on

William Obul continued “They are, looking at her like she is a president, these old guys want to hire he,” while Nick Njogu wrote, “Uhuru checking out the supporting documents.”
