Uhuru’s niece, Nana Gecaga, celebrates 23 years of sobriety
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s niece, Nana Gecaga, has celebrated 23 years of being sober. The CEO of Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) celebrated the milestone on Wednesday with a post on her Instagram account.
“I am 23 years sober today 4th of July. I don’t take it for granted and I know there are a lot of people who are struggling with alcoholism,” Nana wrote.
She also encouraged alcoholics not to be ashamed to ask for help.
“The race is with yourself and only with yourself. The day I asked for help is when my life changed,” she said.
The mother of three also congratulated people who are on the road to sobriety and asked those that are still grappling with different addictions to take their lives seriously as there was nothing as important as sobriety.
Nana once revealed that she used alcohol to try forget issues she was going through.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) alcohol consumption result in 3 million deaths each year globally as well as disabilities and poor health of millions of people.
Alcohol is also the leading risk factor for premature mortality and disability among those aged 15 to 49 years, accounting for 10 per cent of all deaths in this age group.
