Ulinzi out to break Gor’s record

Can Ulinzi Stars end Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run in the Kenyan Premier League this season?

Ulinzi keeper James Saruni certainly thinks so.

“Matches between us and Gor have always been very tough but we are ready for them. They have started the season well but so have we,” Saruni, who doubles up as the team’s assistant skipper, said.

This tie, pitting two of the top three placed teams on the KPL standings after eight rounds of matches is primed to, barring any hiccup, provide the highlight of the eight fixtures on the cards this weekend.

Saruni’s comments are spot on, as K’ogalo seem unstoppable at this moment. The table toppers have not only amassed the most number of points (20), but also boast the best goals scored tally (18) alongside goal difference (12).

Only Sony Sugar (4) have conceded fewer goals than the defending champions tally of  (6).

GOOD START

“I am pleased with our good start (to this season) but this means nothing at the moment because we are yet to attain any of our targets,” Gor’s increasingly popular trainer Frank Nuttal explained.

Micheal Olunga, Meddie Kagere and Ali Abondo who have scored 15 league goals between them, will lead hosts’ attack.

Ulinzi’s rear guard led by Geoffrey Kokoyo and Oliver Kipruto will hope to repel the threesome.

The soldiers’ forward Ezekiel Otuoma will miss out on the match having been given time off from the barracks to tie the knot with his sweetheart Rachel Otieno this weekend.

In other fixtures, basement sides Nakuru All Stars and City Stars will be up against seasoned opponents Tusker FC and Sofapaka respectively, while Western Stima will entertain Bandari in a mid-table clash in Kisumu County.
