Umoinner:Police are to blame for accident

Umoinner Sacco, the owners of the bus involved in a bus-train accident at the Mutindwa level crossing on Wednesday has absolved itself from blame. The accident claimed the lives of 12 people with dozens of others suffering serious injuries.

The blame comes despite the police and the public pointing fingers at the driver whom they accused of ignoring warnings from the train and bystanders.

“The fact is that the bus did not overlap or was not being driven carelessly. It got stuck on the railway line as it attempted to cross,” part of the statement read.

Strangely, the Sacco threw blame at the police.

“We should also question the police because they should always stop vehicles in advance when the train is approaching. Did they also sleep on their job?” the statement went on.

Despite being one of the largest city matatu saccos with a fleet of more than 100 buses, the Sacco has also been accused of having errant drivers and conductors in its ranks.
