Umoja residents dismiss swimming pool project, ask area MP to provide water instead

An ambitious project by Embakasi West MP, George Theuri to construct an international standard swimming pool at Umoja One Primary School has not been well received by some of the area residents.

The groundbreaking ceremony to launch the project on Friday at Umoja One Primary School was graced by Mr Theuri and Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero with the swimming pool expected to be complete in 5 months’ time.

When complete, the swimming pool will be used to host inter-school swimming competitions at the school.

However, area residents have taken issue with the project saying of immediate importance to them is constant supply of water for domestic consumption.

WATER SHORTAGE

Most parts of Umoja experience frequent water shortage, with the essential commodity mostly available during the weekends.

Vilma Katu asked “Mhesh na kusihi tafadhali kama unaweza kutusaidia watufungulie maji ya borehole ya umoja primary iingie kwa plots it’s now a month tangu iache kuingia,” while Daniel Macharisa said, “Maji shida (water is a problem).”

One Jimmex Karichu said, “Just wondering whether itakuwa sunbed ya mawe ama a swimming pool coz water is problematic especially around Umoja 1 Primary,” while Nancy Mwangi said, “Tusort story ya Maji kwanza… hii area ya Umoja Hosp tunaumia (Solve our water problems first. Its a big problem in this area).”
