University of Nairobi most preferred by students and employers – study

University of Nairobi is the most preferred learning institution by both parents and students in the country, a new study has revealed.

Employers also prefer graduates from the university.

A study commissioned by Madison Insurance last month in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa revealed that 24 per cent of students preferred to study at UoN while 49 per cent of parents said they preferred their children to study there.

About 20 per cent of the students said they preferred Kenyatta University followed by JKuat at 8per cent and Moi at 6 per cent.

Among private institutions, students prefer the United States International University-Africa, followed by Daystar and Mount Kenya.

Among employers who had preference when hiring, 84 per cent said graduates from UoN had an advantage when seeking entry–level jobs, followed by JKuat at 63.9 per cent, Kenyatta (57 per cent), Moi (45.6 per cent), Egerton (19.6 per cent), Maseno (6.3 per cent) and Masinde Muliro at 3.8 per cent.

Strathmore topped the private university category with 78 per cent of respondents indicating preference for its graduates followed by Daystar at 57 per cent and Catholic at 49 per cent.
