UoN one of Africa’s best varsities, shows report
The University of Nairobi (UoN) has been ranked eighth in Africa and 775th in the world in the just released edition of Webometrics Ranking.
The ranking, which was released in January, places the UoN as the best in the country, followed by Moi University then Egerton University, after recording an improvement in their overall web ranking.
In East Africa, Makerere University came second after the University of Nairobi, while South Africa’s University of Cape Town leads the ranking in Africa. Harvard University took first position in the world ranking.
TOP POSITION
“Once again, UoN has maintained top position among East African and Kenyan universities,” said UoN corporate affairs director John Orindi.
According to the results published on the Ranking Web of Universities website, UoN was ranked 11th worldwide in the presence parameter.
Presence is the number of pages of the institution’s main web domain. On the visibility parameter, which is the number of external networks originating backlinks to the institution’s web pages, UoN is position 785.
TOP AUTHORS
Under the transparency or openness parameter, which reflects the number of citations from top authors according to the source, the university was ranked position 910.
In the excellence or scholar parameter, which reflects the number of papers most cited, UoN recorded a significant improvement. The ranking covered more than 24,000 higher education institutions worldwide.
The Webometrics ranking is the largest academic classification of higher learning institutions.
