UoN students riot over colleague’s death
University of Nairobi students took to the streets and blocked Uhuru Highway at the University Way roundabout on Tuesday protesting the death of a colleague.
According to Nairobi Police Commander Paul Wanjama the student succumbed to injuries in hospital after he was hit by a speeding vehicle on Saturday.
Mr Wanjama said police received reports of the death after they were informed of students holding a meeting late on Tuesday.
He added that the owner of the car involved had not been arraigned in court because the victim was still in hospital but will now be pursued.
Police however managed to contain the rioting students at around 9pm.
