US-based Kenyan man’s unique obituary intrigues netizens
An obituary for a Kenyan man who lived and worked in the United States of America has intrigued the public for its detailed plans of interment of the deceased.
The family of Dennis Kimani Mwangi, who died on November 27, 2022, has published print (including in the Daily Nation of December 15, 2022) and online versions of the obituary.
According to the obituary, the deceased collapsed and died at a train station while on his way to work. What is unique about the obituary is that, unlike normal obituary templates on local newspapers in Kenya, the family also posted online links for the extended family and their friends in Kenya and abroad to follow his visitations, memorials and internment services via live stream from Archwell Memorial Chapel and St Ferdinand Cemetery – both locations in Missouri.

The visitation and memorial service will both be held at Archway Memorial Chapel on December 16, 2022 followed by the interment at St Ferdinand Cemetery.

In the online obituary, the family of the deceased also appealed to mourners and well-wishers to send donations instead of flowers.
According to the obituary, the late Mwangi studied in Kenya before relocating to St. Louis, Missouri in US in 2010. He worked for Verizon as telemarketer and later enlisted in the US Army where he worked as an Automated Logistical Specialist, Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 92A1.
The deceased, who died at the age of 47, has been described as a very kind and gentle soul, who valued peace and harmony. The deceased has been survived by his mother and three siblings with his father reported to have died at an unknown year.
