US embassy, Garden City Mall disown security alert message
The US embassy and Garden City in Nairobi have discredited a message doing the rounds on social media to the effect that the embassy had issued a security advisory against the shopping mall.
In a statement shared with customers through social media, the management, G C Retail Limited said it had contacted the embassy and confirmed that the alert was not issued by them.
“We have been in touch with the American Embassy and they have confirmed that as at present, no such memo has been issued by the Embassy,” read the statement in part.
The embassy also posted a a tweet disowning the alert.

HIGH ALERT
The mall’s management further assured its customers of safety adding that the security team in the mall was on high alert.
Messages on security alerts have become common on social media with most of them naming malls as possible targets.
Some of the messages have in the past been attributed to the American Embassy which in some cases has distanced itself from the alerts.
