US Green Card results due out on May 6

Kenyans are among millions of people around the world awaiting the release of the 2024 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program results due out on May 6, 2023.

According to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs, entrants in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program popularly known as the Green Card Lottery can find out if they were randomly selected.

Entrants who participated in DV-2024 lottery during the open registration period which ran from October 5, 2022 and November 8, 2022, can check if they won starting at noon on May 6.

To find out if they were selected or not, all those who applied must enter their unique confirmation information saved from their DV-2023 entry registration via a blue button labeled “Check Status” on the website.

“If your entry is selected, you will be directed to a confirmation page providing further instructions, including information about fees connected with immigration to the United States,” officials said in the instructions.

The green card lottery program, officially known as the Diversity Visa program, is run by the US State Department and makes on a lottery basis up to 55,000 green cards available to nationalities of countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.

Popularly known as the Green Card, the DV Lottery program is the most popular way of legally migrating to the United States.

Countries that have more than 50,000 of their citizens immigrate to the US over the previous five years are excluded from participating in the program. For DV-2024, that list includes Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

Kenyan citizens, including those currently living in the US on valid non-immigrant visas, were eligible to participate in DV-2024 lottery.

Close to 7 million people from across the world participated entered the DV-2024 lottery last year during the open registration period, according to the US State Department.

Winners will then be required to submit entries for US permanent residency, and undergo background checks and interviews before they can immigrate to the US as permanent residents.

To be eligible to migrate to the US, those selected (including their qualifying family members) must be issued a permanent resident visa/green card by September 30, 2024.
