Utashangaa! Mutahi Ngunyi predicts landslide Ruto victory in 2027

By Wangu Kanuri February 17th, 2024 2 min read

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has criticized those predicting President William Ruto will only serve one term.

In a message shared on X, Ngunyi instead argued that President Ruto is poised for a resounding victory in the 2027 elections; ‘a landslide win.’

With the 2027 elections approaching and various politicians announcing their intentions to run for the presidency, Ngunyi pointed out that it’s merely wishful thinking to believe President Ruto won’t seek re-election.

Additionally, Ngunyi highlighted that criticism aimed at President Ruto, often labeled as lies or unfulfilled promises, in his view, the genuine aspirations of an earnest leader.

He wrote, “And for the record: Those saying that Ruto will be a one-term President are daydreamers. In 2027, Ruto will win with a landslide. I do not know how. But the trends are obvious to the objective eye. What you are calling lies are the dreams of a sincere man. And God will grant them.”

However, President Ruto has been under fire for the unfulfilled promises he made to Kenyans during his campaign season with others being infuriated at how he was running the country. The high cost of living, choking taxation, youth unemployment, and corruption among other issues are some of the dire needs Kenyans have been calling on the government to address yet unattended to.

Additionally, his movements across the continent have not eased the situation with many Kenyans angered by the cost he is incurring as he globe trotts.

Days before the August 2022 general elections, Ngunyi crossed over to President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance camp, a decision that left many shocked as he had formerly served as a political advisor to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta who was supporting Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

“I have defected to William Ruto. I misjudged him using the dynasty lens. But if the facts change, you must change your mind,” he wrote on his X account.
