Utawala residents in uproar over poor roads – PHOTOS

Residents of Utawala on Wednesday barricaded roads to protest the poor state of infrastructure that is taking a toll on their health.

The residents lit bonfires on Airways Road creating a massive traffic jam. Morning commuters were forced to walk for long distances to board matatus

The protesters complained about trucks carrying sand and ballasts trucks that have ruined the formerly tarmacked road that has now become dusty.

The trucks are reported to use the road to avoid the weighbridge at Mlolongo.

The resident said the speeding trucks are a threat to their school-going children, while the dust raised has seen young one contract airborne diseases.

Landlords complained of lost income from their rental houses because of the dust.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino assured the residents that construction of the road would commence in October.

“I have met the Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority and agreed that the construction of Benedictor to kinca road at Utawala ward in Embakasi east constituency will commence next week,” he tweeted on Wednesday.
