Vanessa Mdee reveals shocking encounter with prominent Tanzanian music manager

Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee has shared startling revelations about an encounter with a prominent music manager in Tanzania that led her to walk away from a potential management deal.

In a recent conversation with her husband, American-Nigerian actor and musician Rotimi, Mdee recounted a disturbing proposal from the manager involving occult practices.

“There was a time I was looking for new management and so I reached out to the most popular manager in Tanzania,” Mdee began.

“I was like, ‘I would like to consider being managed by you and your team,’ and he told me, ‘If you come under our management, you have to understand that we do practice occultism like witchcraft and black magic. Before the music comes out, we present the music to some form of rituals.'”

Shocked by this revelation, Mdee questioned the manager’s practices and their compatibility with her faith.

“Do you not believe that God is enough?” she asked. To this, the manager responded, “We do, but this is also part of our culture, and they go hand in hand.”

Firm in her Christian beliefs, Mdee decided against joining the management team.

“I never pursued the conversation again. I thank God for my parents for instilling the fear of God in me early in life because I was not going to compromise my faith,” she said.

This revelation comes in the context of Mdee’s earlier statements about the music industry.

In 2020, Vanessa described the industry as “demonic” and attributed it to leading her astray. Speaking on her podcast Deep Dive, the mother of two explained her decision to leave music.

“The reason why I have to leave the industry is because I needed to choose my life. The music industry is demonic,” Vanessa declared. “Now my fans are probably asking themselves right now, ‘Are you going to never sing again? Are we never going to see you perform?’ Let me reiterate. I love music, I love to create, I love to perform. I’m a vessel. This is what I was brought on earth to be, but maybe I was a vessel to be here in this moment to have gone through everything that I have gone through so that I can tell you most honestly the truth about things you will never hear somewhere else.”
