Vanessa Mdee signed by American label Universal Music Group
Tanzanian songbird Vanessa Mdee has become the first African artiste to be signed by an international music distributor, Universal Music Group.
Vanessa broke the good news to her fans on Instagram, thanking them for their unwavering support. She also expressed her joy for joining the American global music corporation.
“Hii ni habari njema kwa mashabiki wangu na ndiyo kwanza tumeanza.Mambo makubwa zaidi yanakuja,” she wrote.

The Cash Madam hit maker also took the occasion to open up on the struggles she has gone through in her career to make it as a successful female singer.
“Nimeona niitumie siku na fursa hii kuwajulisha wapendwa mashabiki zangu; Mwanzoni mwa mwaka huu, nilipitia changamoto nyingi sana lakini kwa neema za Mungu, nilitoka mahali pale na sio kuona baraka tu bali na maajabu mengi yaliyotokea kwenye maisha yangu,” she said.
Mdee is famous for being the first ever Tanzanian MTV VJ. She later rose to prominence as a radio and TV host, hosting Epic Bongo Star Search and Dume Challenge for ITV Tanzania before signing to B’Hits Music Group in late 2012.
She has since established herself to rank among the top Tanzanian artistes while at the same time growing her Mdee Music brand.
