Varsity student found dead after a night of partying

A 23-year-old man was found dead at the bottom of a cliff after a night of partying with his friends in Kabarnet Town.

Gilbert Kibet Kimosop, a second year student at Kenyatta University, Nakuru Campus, was reported missing after the party on Saturday night.

His friends searched for him until Sunday morning when his lifeless body was spotted at the bottom of Kiplewel cliff in the outskirts of Kabarnet Town.

He is believed to have fallen off the cliff and died, but a postmortem examination has been planned to establish the cause of his death.

It was only on Tuesday evening when the body was removed from the 200-metre deep cliff, due to a rugged terrain. Passers-by had informed police after spotting the body down the cliff.

ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY

Gilbert had attended an engagement ceremony at Kiptilit in Baringo Central Sub-County on Saturday and joined a party at Cifika Club, according to his relative.

“After that Saturday, he did not come back home. We tried calling him on Sunday but he was not reachable. We asked his colleagues but they all said that they had not seen him after the party, prompting us to launch a search for him.”

On Tuesday, his family received the news that he had been found dead down a cliff and they reported the matter to police who accompanied them to remove the body.

County Police Commandant Peter Ndungu said investigations had begun into the incident.

The body was taken to Baringo County Referral Hospital mortuary, where the postmortem examination was to be conducted.

“We call on people, especially those not conversant with the terrain of the area to exercise caution to avert such disasters,” said Mr Ndungu.
