Vie in 2017 elections? Not me, says Dr Mutunga
Former Chief Justice (CJ) Willy Mutunga has dismissed claims that he will be running for a political office in the 2017 general election.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, the former CJ dispelled the rumours made on Wednesday by a local TV station as “lies” and “propaganda”.

He, however, said that he was grateful for having the opportunity to serve Kenya in the judiciary and would gladly do so if called upon again to do so.

On Wednesday, Citizen TV reported that Dr Mutunga had been installed the Ukweli Party leader, although the move had stalled after the Registrar of Political Parties said his signature was missing.
The media house interpreted the move to mean that the former CJ was keen on a political seat in this year’s election. Ukweli Party is associated with rights activist Boniface Mwangi.
Dr Mutunga retired in June 2016 at the age of 69 after serving for five years. He was replaced by Justice David Maraga.
