Vietnamese arrested trafficking rhino horns, lion teeth worth Sh12m


A Vietnam national was on Friday night arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with rhino horns and lion teeth valued at Sh12 Million.

The man, Vuahn Tuan, according to police, was heading to Hanoi from Maputo in Mozambique with the wildlife products.

He was found carrying seven pieces of rhino horns, pieces of rhino tails and lion teeth, all weighing 11.89 kilograms.

“He had just alighted from a Kenya Airways flight at around 11 p.m and he looked suspicious and nervous and so we asked to check his belongings,” airport CID boss, Judy Jebet said.

She said the products were found wrapped in a polythene bags.

Police are holding Mr Tuan and he will be charged in court on Monday.

There has lately been an increase in the number of people arrested at JKIA trafficking banned wildlife products.
