Violent man awaits sentencing for assaulting and injuring his mother

A Nairobi man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to assaulting and injuring his mother and her colleague at Pumwani Dispensary in Nairobi.

The accused, Mr Isaac Olaleko, was charged with assaulting and causing bodily harm to his mother Gladys Esther Kangai on January 27, 2023 contrary to section 251 of the penal code.

Mr Olaleko was also charged with assaulting his mother’s colleague Onesmus Muli Munyoki who had attempted to rescue Ms Kangai.

The accused person was charged with malicious damage to property contrary to section 339 (1) of the penal code.

He is accused of willfully and maliciously damaging three plastic chairs valued at Sh2,100 during the incident that occurred last Friday (January 27, 2023).

Mr Olaleko is reported to have gone to the dispensary where his mother works and grabbed her before he started punching and kicking her in presence of her colleagues. In the process, he injured her on the abdomen and hip joint.

When Mr Munyoki attempted to intervene, he too was assaulted by the accused. It is only after other colleagues joined in that they managed to overpower the assailant. Mr Olaleko was subsequently arrested and locked up at Shauri Moyo Police Station.

The accused person pleaded guilty to the charges before Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani at the Makadara Law Courts.

He was remanded in custody until February 16, 2023 when the prosecution will avail exhibits including P3 forms and treatment notes for the two complainants before he is sentenced.
