Violent protests mar ODM Nairobi polls’ results
The announcement of various elective seats in Nairobi during the just concluded ODM nominations have been bitterly contested by some of the losers.
Among the disputed outcome was that for Nairobi Woman Representative which was won by businesswoman Esther Passaris.
The announcement of Passaris as the winner on Monday at the tallying centre at Nyayo Stadium was greeted by complaints of over results from Westlands and Lang’ata Constituency.
In two wards in Westlands – Mountain View and Kangemi – the results were not announced after it was alleged that the presiding officer left without doing so.
JUBILEE PARTY SLOGANS
The announcement of Alex Ouda, an MCA for Mugumoini Ward, as the winner of Langa’ta constituency parliamentary was also heavily disputed by one of the aspirants.
At some point, the rowdy youths started chanted Jubilee Party slogans.
One of the aspirant Ahmed Ibrahim aka Papa claimed that by 3pm on Sunday voting in Nyayo High Rise ward had not started, hence the delay in counting votes from polling stations in Karen and High Rise.
Mr Ibrahim further claimed that the announcement was made by an imposter and not the designated Returning Officer.
“Although Ouda had been leading by a small margin, I knew I had my stronghold in High Rise and Karen. The results were however announced prematurely before the tallying ended in my wards. We have had the certificate declared null and void we are waiting for the party to confirm,” said Mr Ibrahim.

Mr Ouda, on his part, maintained that the elections were free and fair saying losers in any game never accept defeat.
He said that won fair and square and that he was surprised that there are disputes. He however said that he is ready for any appeal or repeat of the exercise.
Nyayo High Rise MCA, Akuk Maurice Omondi, also caused a big commotion at the tallying centre by demanding that he be declared the winner since tallying in his ward had been botched during counting.
Mr Akuk, whose shirt was ripped off during the protest, claimed that his opponents ran away with ballot papers and boxes during counting.
The other winners in parliamentary seats during the ODM nominations are Steve Mbogo (Starehe), Abdulkadir Mohamud Omar (Kamukunji), George Aladwa (Makadara), Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Tom Onyango (Embakasi West) and Ken Okoth (Kibra)
