Waiguru: Kirinyaga win has vindicated me from NYS scandal
Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru, has termed her win in Kirinyaga County a justification of her innocence on allegations of corruption that cost her her job.
While addressing the press at the Jubilee Party headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday, a confident Waiguru also thanked the people of Kirinyaga for their support and trust in her.
“The people of Kirinyaga and also the whole country, saw what I did when I was a minister and they recognized it, despite the fights that were there during the NYS issue. People can see through that,” she said.
“Those accusations were baseless. Until today not one single thing has been proved. The Kirinyaga people have proven it. I think that is the statement that they were trying to put out, that we know for ourselves and make judgments for ourselves.”
Having won the Jubilee Party nomination for the Kirinyaga County gubernatorial seat, Ms Waiguru will, however, face a formidable challenge from Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua during the August 8 general election.
