Wanga backs Tusker to break Kenya’s jinx in Caf Champions League

Kenyan international striker, Allan Wanga, has backed Tusker FC to progress to the group stages of the Caf Africa Champions League in 2017.

The vastly experienced player, who has sampled continental football during his previous stints in Sudan, Tanzania and Angola, was reacting to Thursday’s draw for the competition released by the Confederation of African Football.

Tusker have been paired against Mauritius club AS Port Louis in the preliminaries of the competition.

Should they go past the Mauritius opponents, then a tougher assignment against Sudan’s Al Hilal awaits the brewers in the first round of the competition.

MONEY SPINNING PHASE

The winning team from the first round will progress to the lucrative money spinning group phase stage.

“We have a chance of going far in this competition, and that is our main aim. Looking at our form over the last six months, we should be able to match the two teams. Al Hilal will be tricky, but then, still, we have a chance,” said Wanga, who’s formerly played in Sudan at El Merreikh.

In a related development, domestic cup runners up Ulinzi Stars were drawn against Libya’s Hilal Benghazi in the preliminary stage of the Caf Confederation Cup.
