Harambee Stars striker Allan Wanga made an impressive competitive debut for Azam FC in the club’s 2-1 win over Tanzania Prisons in a league match at the Chamadzi grounds in Dar es Salaam on Saturday evening.

According to the club’s official website azamfc.co.tz, Wanga was instrumental in the result in what was the team’s first league match of the season.

What’s more, the former El Merreikh and AFC Leopards forward was twice denied by the woodwork in the game.

FITNESS CONCERNS

“I would have wished to find the net with the two headers but I am happy with how my debut. Goals are surely on the way,”Wanga pointed out to Nairobi News in an online interview.

The 28 year old player moved to Azam in June, but has had his debut delayed on more than one occasion, largely due to fitness concerns and private matters.

His overall performance was praised by a number of club fans online with Al Amiin Haroun Farijallah saying “Allan Wanga hakufunga ila shughuli yake imeonekana, kuna shuti lake moja liligonga mtambaa wa panya,” (Wanga didn’t score but he made a good impression. He came very close with one shot).

Azam’s next assignment will be away to Stand United in Mwanza on Wednesday.
