Wanyama pushing for better deal to stay at Southampton

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama will request for a substantial increase to his current wages if he is to consider renewing his contract at Southampton.

Reports in the English media suggest the midfielder will be approached by his employer with an offer to extend his stay in England beyond the remaining two years of his contract.

The player’s father, Noah Wanyama, Wednesday indicated that the player is happy at his current club.

“From what I have seen on the pitch plus our private conversation, I believe he is happy at Southampton. If they give him an enticing offer he will for sure consider it, just like I am sure he will consider an offer from a club playing in the Uefa Champions League,” Wanyama senior, who is a former Kenya international attacker said.

Wanyama, who currently earns Sh10 million-a-week, has been an instrumental player for Southampton since joining from Celtic in a reported Sh2 billion move two years ago.

His impressive displays have in the past led to reported interest from his services from Tottenham Hotspur – a club currently handled by the player’s former manager Mauricio Pochettino, as well as Arsenal, Manchester United and Italian outfit Fiorentina.

The 24-year-old is expected to play a key role for Ronald Koemen’s side this term, in the wake of the recent departures of two key players Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneirdelen to Liverpool and Manchester United respectively.
