Wanyama targeted by fans after loss to Zambia

Frustrated football supporters on Sunday confronted national team captain Victor Wanyama and other Harambee Stars players following the 1-2 loss to Zambia in an African Nations Cup qualifier.

Wanyama was among the players singled out for criticism after the final whistle.

The Southampton player was surrounded by a handful of fans on the pitch and needed protection from the stewards to leave for the dressing rooms.

His explanation that the team’s performance was a bad day in office fell on deaf years.

During the last minutes of thr game, with Kenya already trailing 2-1, a section of fans started chanting slogans calling for a change in football management.

Others set ablaze campaign posters and banners erected in the stadium in favour of incumbent Sam Nyamweya.
