Wario to jet out to stem unrest in Harambee Stars camp

Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario is expected to fly out to Addis Ababa on Tuesday morning, in a trip meant to stem the growing unrest within the national football team camp, Nairobi News understands.

This follows reports that Harambee Stars players did not receive their allowances on Monday as had been promised by Football Kenya Federation.

Wario is also expected to watch Harambee Stars quarter final fixture of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup against Rwanda in the Ethiopian capital on Tuesday evening.

It is not clear whether Wario will pay players their monies.

Harambee Stars players have been a disgruntled lot since heading to Ethiopia to participate in the annual football competition, a factor that is perhaps reflected in the team’s inconsistent results.

First the players reportedly went on a go slow claiming accrued allowances.

Then Nairobi News exclusively reported a number of players had been caught engaging in a drinking spree hours after the team suffered a disappointing defeat to Zanzibar on Friday evening.

Kenya has played three games in Ethiopia, winning, drawing and losing once against Uganda, Burundi and Zanzibar respectively.
