WATCH: Did Raila refer to singer Bahati as ‘Matthew’?

Raila Odinga recently appeared to struggle to recognize popular singer Kelvin Kioko, aka Bahati, despite the duo dropping a hit barely two months ago.

During a campaign rally held in Nairobi a few days ago, Odinga, a leading contender in the 2022 presidential race, is heard asking Bahati what his name is as he prepares to introduce him to the audience.

“(I’m) Bahati, (from) Mathare,” the singer, who is vying for the Mathare parliamentary seat is heard responding.”

But Odinga, the Azimio presidential candidate, responds by referring to singer as ‘Matthew’.

Earlier this year, the Adhiambo hitmaker teamed up with Odinga and a group of politicians, including Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, to drop a hit titled Fire.

“I told you this is historic! I took Hon Raila Amolo Odinga to the studio for the first time and we made the collabo of the year,” explained the singer.

Introduction error aside, Bahati’s entry to politics has been a bitter sweet experience, as his nomination certificate recalled by the Jubilee party after he was issued.

A bitterly disappointed Bahati wept publicly while pleading with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga to save his political career which was barely a month old.

“I respect my President honourable Raila Amolo Odinga but (I pead with them to) please give the youth of this country a chance. I know there is zoning and Mathare has been zoned as an ODM area, but for this one time give the youth of this country a chance. Give the people of Mathare a chance to get the leader they have always wanted,” he pleaded.

Fast forward to this past week, the singer week was awarded his nomination certificate and cleared to contest.
