WATCH: How Nigerian actor Ray Emodi was paid 200,000 but failed to show up to shoot a film

A famous Nigeria actor has apologized publicly for an online altercation with a producer who claimed to have paid him for a movie gig in which he failed to appear.

Actor Ray Emodi had a melt down on live stream when he cried over claims of being paid about Sh 200,000 (700,000 Naira) for a job but he did not show up.

The popular producer and actress known as Rossy Adigwe called him out over the same on social media, saying she had paid Emodi in February 2023 to appear in her film but he did not show up even after they signed a contract.

This was after he rushed her into paying him first to secure dates as other producers were allegedly looking for him too.

Four days later, he apparently said he would not act out her script and wanted to refund the money to her. Mr Emodi became the subject of scorn in Nigeria following Ms Adigwe’s video where she too had been crying over what she termed as breach of contract. This prompted Mr Emodi to also drop his own video explaining what had transpired.

“Guys, I know you must have seen the accusations foreign guys on social media about me owing somebody 700, 000 Naira, not just somebody, a young girl. I’m sorry, let me get myself together. I’m wearing a suit, they say I always wear nothing I’m always shirtless and I’m irresponsible and I’m only acting like a good person that every time I do post I don’t wear shirts I’m wearing suits so I’m official now.

Guys, I want, first of all, the girl has gotten her 700 000 naira back like a few minutes ago so I said let me talk to you people don’t understand. I’m sorry about the tears it’s not fake, it’s not fake. I’m sorry it’s not crocodile tears you know I don’t want to go into why uh the uh job didn’t happen because you know I’ve been acting in Nollywood since 2017,” began the actor.

He went on to claim that he has done about 300 productions and no one has ever accused him of what Ms Adigwe did. He claimed they had agreed on 40 scenes at a discount of 700,000 Naira compared to the 10 million naira he usually charges, but she came back with 60 scenes and he said he would not do it. The producer allegedly began crying on the phone when Ray refused to do the film. While crying in his video, he said he had nothing but love for Rose and had seen all the traumatic comments and insults he had received based on her video. He told them that God’s judgment day would soon reveal everything that happened.

In another video, he recognized that “everybody on social media” hated him and apologized to Rossy for the stress she went through. He reiterated that he likes sticking to a deal he has made with producers and have them in text as proof in the event anything like this happened. He also appreciated those who defended him on and off social media and expressed love for them.

He also apologized to his supporters and his renowned family that is very protective of their reputation. Ray is the son of Mrs Joy Emodi, former Anambra North Constituency senator, while his father is the late Dr Okey Emodi, an economist. At the end of the video, he said he believes he is a good actor and musician and will keep at it.
