Wavinya Ndeti to Raila: You either support Kalonzo or you’re on your own

By Winnie Onyando February 14th, 2023 2 min read

Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has warned ODM leader Raila Odinga that he risks losing the support of the Kamba community unless he supports Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The governor, who previously served as a Member of Parliament for the Kathiani Constituency, said it is time Mr Odinga returned the favour and supported Mr Musyoka.

“This time, support Kalonzo Musyoka. If you do not support him, we are not with you. We are tired of being belittled as a community. We have done our best to support Odinga and now he should also support us,” Ms Ndeti said.

The governor further encouraged Mr Musyoka to be remain strong and steadfast.

“We want to tell our brother Musyoka to talk to Odinga to rally behind him in the 2027 General Election,” the governor said.

During last year’s General Election, Mr Musyoka, for the third time,  shelved his presidential ambitions in favour of Mr Odinga.

“The fool in me ended up supporting Raila for the third time, but that fool is wiser now than he was then. I am no fool. It took some painful introspection and I brought it out before I had to sit with my brother Raila to show him in black and white what we had agreed in writing,” Mr Musyoka said when he was asked why he supported Mr Odinga’s presidential bid.

Even as political leaders begin cutting deals ahead of the next General Election, Mr Odinga is yet to make public his political future.

The two leaders, after losing the August election, have been organizing and attending various political rallies as a way of piling pressure on President William Ruto’s government.
