Wavinya’s new Swahili ‘proverb’ lights up social media -VIDEO
It may have been a slip of the tongue, but it has accorded Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti the status of a modern day proverb ‘creator’.
During her speech after winning a case in the High Court that was seeking to bar her from vying for the political seat, an ecstatic Ms Ndeti decided to quote the famous Swahili Proverb “Yaliyo pita si ndwele, tugange yajayo,”.
The proverb simply means that in life we should let the past remain in the past and focus on the future.
However, Ms Ndeti’s recital of the proverb – “Yaliyo ndwele sipite” – came out as a totally new creation from the known one.
Her famous phrase has now become the subject of hilarious memes on social media.
