Westlands shoot-out: Manhunt on for armed motorbike robbers
Police in Westlands on Monday launched a manhunt for a motorbike rider and a pillion passenger who are believed to be armed and terrorizing members of the public.
Officers working within the Gigiri Division in Westlands Sub-County are on high alert after they almost nabbed the duo. Still, they managed to escape as officers attached to the Spring Valley police post laid a trap.

An officer identified as Mr Ken Otieno said that he received intelligence reports from members of the public about the duo that was robbing members of the public as they brandished a pistol.
“They were riding within Westlands Sub-County robbing people of their mobile phones, they responded and caught up with the rider at High ridge area,” a police report filed at Spring Valley police station read in part.
The duo was asked to stop, and the pillion passenger attempted to pull out the firearm, but the officer repulsed the rider by shooting thrice in the air.
They sped off and disappeared towards the Parklands area. The officers did not manage to arrest the suspects.
Cases of suspected armed robbers operating while onboard motor vehicles have been on the increase in the recent past.

A week ago, two youthful men were nabbed by members of the public at the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout in Nairobi County.
The duo had spent the better part of the evening of Sunday, January 15, 2023, stealing from civilians.
However, they were nabbed when they snatched a mobile phone from a lady at the roundabout, and bodaboda riders and the public chased them.
Citizens attempted to carry out a lynching on the apprehended suspects but were prevented from doing so when the police arrived and rescued them.
The police have seized the motorcycle used in the crime and are requesting any information from the public about one of the suspects who escaped.
