What Kenyans seeking US Green Card need to know

By HILARY KIMUYU October 18th, 2017 1 min read

Kenyans who recently submitted applications for the United States Green Card lottery will need to reapply after the State Department website crashed.

The Diversity Visa 2019 (DV-2019) Green Card lottery website went down last Wednesday, causing concern among applicants.

The State Department has announced it is closing the lottery to address the technical problems.

Consequently, all applicants who made entries made between October 3 and October 10 will need to submit their applications afresh from Wednesday, October 18.

The website will run until November 22 at noon.

NEW DATES

Only applications submitted between the new dates will be considered.

The State Department’s original entry dates were October 3 to November 7.

“The technical issue has been resolved and a new full entry period will begin at noon, U.S. Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday October 18, 2017 and will run until noon Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday November 22, 2017,” a statement from the State Department said.

The Diversity Visa program provides 50,000 permanent resident visas annually to nationals of countries with a low population of immigrants in the US.

Those selected in the DV-2019 lottery are eligible to get permanent resident visas (green cards) and immigrate to the US during the 2019 fiscal year.
