Where is William Ruto?

Deputy President William Ruto is missing in action for the past few days, raising questions as to where he could be.

Ideally, an energetic Ruto who is gunning to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the August 2022 polls, would be on the campaign trail, addressing upto to ten political rallies in different parts of the court in a day.

He would also be meeting delegation after delegation of women groups or leaders from various parts of the country at his official Karen residence, or better still, receiving defectors or aspirants seeking political seats in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

But that has not been the case.

He is also yet to field media interviews within the three days he’s been unavailable even as reports on social media suggested he was out of the country.

Reviews on his social media pages show that the DP last posted a political message involving him on January 30.

Incidentally, that’s the last day the second in command was seen in public during an event at at Thirime Primary School grounds in Kikuyu, where he commissioned an administration block and classrooms funded by NG-CDF Kikuyu.

The other political activity he engaged in was meetings including Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, his new political friends.

In his absence, Mudavadi, Wetangula and a team of politicians sympathetic to his presidential bid including Aaron Cheruiyot, Kipchumba Murkomen, Rigati Gachagua and Ndindi Nyoro have been doing his bidding.

The Kenyan constitution puts the DP as the candidate to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta in the event he is disposed.

Ruto’s office was not available for comment.
