‘Who doesn’t make mistakes?’ Butita reflects on Miss Mandi’s past mockery
Comedian Eddie Butita has revisited his falling out with former radio presenter turned content creator Miss Mandi, who once mocked his comedy.
Butita’s recent trip to the US, where he accompanied President William Ruto on a tour of filmmaker Tyler Perry’s studios, caused a stir on social media, with a section of users digging up a tweet from when Miss Mandi once mocked his comedy, telling him that she didn’t think he was funny and that his comedy would never get him a radio job, which he wanted so much at the time.
“It was up to her to turn me down, and the public should let this one go, even though it keeps coming up. I think Miss Mandi had a right to say what she said, we are all human beings, we have choices and that was hers. The only question was how she went about it, she probably could have been a bit nicer without necessarily being ridiculous. It was wrong, but then again, who doesn’t make mistakes? Butita told Nairobi News.
An email screenshot between the two 11 years ago revealed that Miss Mandi not only turned down the comedian’s request to be her radio co-host, but also ridiculed his creativity. Butita was just beginning his comedy career.
Fast forward to 2024 and the comedian has emerged as one of President Ruto’s favourite creatives.
The 31-year-old’s camaraderie with the president, which began last year, has seen him involved in a number of creative projects the government is trying to implement.
But the highlight of it all was getting a moment to hang out with the head of state while he was in the US.
While many have given flowers to Butita, the founder of Stage Presence Media Buzz (SPM BUZZ), for his continued ethos of reinventing himself from the stand-up comedian he once was to finding favour in the eyes of the President, some have only wondered what became of Miss Mandi.
