Who will star in Kenya’s version of The Real Housewives Of Nairobi?


Popular reality TV series ‘The Real Housewives’ franchise has listed Nairobi, Kenya as one of the African countries to take part in their exponentially growing series as they expand across the world, with its production reach extending to some renowned African countries.

In a recent update by NBC Universal Formats, it is denoted that the production company has partnered with African entertainment company, Multichoice for several more African versions of ‘The Real Housewives shows’, according to a report by Variety.

The new versions will include Nairobi (Kenya) and Pretoria (South Africa), with several others in the making. Netizens are now asking who would make it to represent Kenyan housewives on the reality show.

Independent production company Provoco is filming the 14-part series in Pretoria, while the filming in Nairobi is set to begin in September 2022.

The Real Housewives is an international franchise that currently consists of 11 American instalments, 20 international instalments, as well as 23 spin-offs.

The shows focus on the personal and professional lives of a group of affluent women residing in a particular city.

NBCUniversal Formats recently held The Real Housewives of Africa Summit in Cape Town, where local producers shared their experiences and connections with other global partners behind The Real Housewives shows.

Ana Langenberg, senior VP at NBCUniversal Formats said;

“We are so proud to build on the continued success of The Real Housewives franchises across Africa. The way each version faithfully embodies the spirit of the city, people, and rich cultures it showcases connects with audiences across the region and the diaspora.”

She added saying; “It was such a magical moment to bring our production partners together with Multichoice for our summit in Cape Town to connect, collaborate and map out more versions we can add to the family.”

Executive head of content at Mnet Channels Nomsa Philiso said that the franchise is proving to be very popular with Mnet channel’s diverse audiences and that though it is a global franchise, their spin on is ‘authentically African’.

The Real Housewives currently has shows in Lagos, which was the first Nigerian instalment of the franchise in Africa.

The Real Housewives of Cape Town had its debut last month and ranked in the top five reality premieres on the channel since 2021.
