Why Akothee cancelled her wedding plans – VIDEO

Kenyan musician Esther Akoth aka Akothee, has revealed why she canceled her wedding which was to be held on Saturday 5th November.

The mother of five, who was once a taxi driver and claims to be one of the wealthiest female musicians in Kenya, said she made the decision because she wants to concentrate on her music career.

However, Akothee said the wedding is not a closed chapter and that she would marry when she gets the time.

“I’ve got so much on hands now. I come first. A man doesn’t give me conditions,” she told NTV’s The Trend host Larry Madowo on Friday night.

The singer gave a hint as to why she called off the wedding saying she and her fiancé differed over a number of issues.

I CHOSE MUSIC

“Initially I wasn’t supposed to go for the Afrimma and he (the fiancé) felt like music was taking too much of my time. So we agreed that I should choose what is best and I chose music,” she said during the interview.

Akothee was recently crowned the Best Female Artiste in East Africa 2015 in the Africa Muzik Magazine Awards (Afrimma) which took place in Texas, United States

She won another Best Female Artiste (East Africa) award at the Africa Entertainment Awards USA (AEAUSA) also held in the United States.

During a recent interview with Nairobi News, Akothee disclosed that did not receive enough attention from her large family as a teenager and that peer pressure forced her to get married and start a family with another teenager at the age of 14 years old.

“I have no one to blame but myself. In the end I turned my misfortunes around and made it work,” she said.
