Why CID officer opted for suicide after sweet love turned sour

Fresh details have emerged on the circumstances that led a Criminal Investigations Officer to turn his gun on himself on Sunday night in Nyayo estate, Embakasi.

Anthony Momanyi Kangu’s ten-year career in the police force ended in a pool of blood on a staircase after his girlfriend had locked him out of her house following a quarrel.

He died while holding his official Taurus pistol that had two rounds of ammunition, just seconds after he had sunk a bullet in his head.

Police investigations have revealed that the CID officer was on that day at Gavanna bar in Embakasi with his girlfriend where a quarrel ensued.

The woman left in a huff and headed to her house in Nyayo estate.

PERSONA-NON-GRATA

The woman had earlier this year put a notice at the estate’s entrance indicating that the deceased was a persona-non-grata.

Since the officer was the one who had signed the lease and was paying the rent, he went to the landlord who then ordered the guards not to block the officer from accessing the house.

Patrons at Gavanna bar along Outering Road said that the two sat at a table and were having a normal discussion.

The woman was married to a brother of a legislator from the Western region and had children from her first marriage. The deceased also had another family

On Sunday, after the woman had left Gavanna bar for her house, the officer followed her moments later, but found the door of the house locked.

Reports say the officer had whisked out his gun and shot three rounds at the wooden door to no avail.

The shots caused panic in the neighbourhood, leading to false reports on social media that he had shot at the neighbours.

SUICIDE NOTE

Distressed by the lack of attention from his girlfriend, the officer decided to take his life, but first wrote a suicide note which he handed to a neighbour, one Allan Mjomba.

He then whisked out his gun, aimed it on his head and pulled the trigger.

Throughout the episode, his girlfriend remained locked inside her house.

The deceased was attached to Criminal Investigation unit in Kayole.
